Flashback: The 5 Coolest, Futuristic Technology Unveiled at CES 2017

CES 2017The CES 2017—an annual show organized by the Consumer Technology Association, was the stage for the launch of many cool, futuristic technology including a credit card sized computer, drone that can function underwater and wallpaper-thin TVs. So, what else was launched at the 2017 Consumer Electronics show? Here is the complete list of the coolest, futuristic technology unveiled at CES 2017!

Held in Las Vegas in January last year, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 served as the perfect platform for companies dealing with automobiles, computer technology and home appliances to show off their latest innovations. While narrowing down everything that occurred at the 2017 CES was not possible, we did manage to eke out the 5 coolest, futuristic technology unveiled there.

While established tech companies such as Google and Apple were absent from the event, many mid-sized companies and new startups attended the show and unveiled technology that could give the big boys a run for money in the future. The 50th edition of the event, the 2017 Consumer Electronics show had many highlights. However, the following were the five coolest and most promising gadgets unveiled at CES 2017.

1.     Lenovo Smart Assistant

A more colorful and slightly cheaper version of the Amazon Echo, the new Lenovo Smart Assistant has eight microphones that are capable of picking speech from sixteen feet away. Also, since Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant powers it, you will get access to the same set of skills that are available to buyers of the Alexa. Lenovo pitches the Assistant as ideal for playing music, managing to-do lists and calendars and answering questions.

2.     Plume

A wearable device, Plume tracks the pollution around you. A gadget that you can clip to a bag, Plume tracks temperature, ozone, nitrogen oxide, humidity, volatile organic compounds and particulate matter (PM2.5).

3.     A Laptop with Three Monitors

Want to watch a Netflix movie, play a video game and write an email all at the same time? Well, Razer’s three monitor laptop allows you to do just that. For most people, a single screen laptop isn’t enough and this is a problem Razers aims to solve with Project Valeria—the name given to the cool, new laptop.

Featuring two foldable displays in addition to the main screen in the center, Project Valerie features Nvidia’s 1080 graphics card and is powered by an Intel Kaby Lake processor. Capable of supporting 4K resolution, each screen of the laptop is 17 inches in size and can used as one big display or independently. While Razer—the Singapore based gaming company flaunted many cool, gadgets at the 2017 CES, it was the Project Valeria prototype that caught the attention of most attendees.

One of the coolest gadgets unveiled at the 2017 Electronics show in Vegas, Project Valeria does have some downsides including weighing just twelve pounds, which isn’t acceptable for a laptop with three monitors. According to Razer, the final version of the laptop—if and when it comes to market, will be slightly different from the prototype. Whatever the final version looks like, one thing is for sure—Project Valeria will be one of the coolest, gaming laptops around when it finally comes out.

4.     A Credit Card-Sized Computer

Not too long ago, Intel—an American multinational tech company, came up with Compute Stick—a extremely tiny computer capable of adjusting into something as small as a Chromecast. But, Intel has come up with something even better—a credit card sized computer. Unlike other innovative computers and laptops that are designed for customization and upgradation purposes, the purpose of Intel’s new tiny-sized computer is upgrading the internet-connected home appliances.

Though the Compute Card has the thickness and size of several credit cards, it is packed with tons of power. Designed to fit easily into smart devices, the card comes with storage, memory, wi-fi and a Kaby Lake processor. With its new credit card-sized computer, Intel aims to upgrade connected home appliances such as connected security cameras, interactive retail kiosks and smart refrigerators. The idea behind it is to allow anyone to insert the card in a normal monitor or other type of dock to convert it into a computer system. If this materializes, buying a new computer system to improve connectivity or support faster systems may soon become a thing of the past.

To win their support for the Compute Card, Intel has been marketing the gadget to manufacturers of smart appliances, kiosks, and smart TVs. In addition to the basic functions of a standard-sized computer, the credit-card sized computer unveiled by Intel at the CES 2017 features a processor, storage space, memory and wireless technology. This gadget is particularly useful for TVs as it allows you to easily upgrade the TV for new processes and apps—all you have to do is swap the old computer Card with the latest one.

While the Compute Card is an incredible piece of technology, it will take sometime before it hits the market. However, you will soon see the Card exhibited at malls and hotels as Intel has gotten into a partnership with Sharp—a Japanese manufacture of electronic products, for that purpose.

5.     A Fitness Tracking Ring

Your entire fitness tracking crammed into a ring, the fitness tracking ring by Motiv was a star attraction at the CES 2017. Made of titanium, the fitness tracking ring can track your sleep and fitness including distance, calories and steps. Additionally, the tracker can run for up to three days on a single charge.

In addition to the aforementioned-technology, many other cool, futuristic gadgets were unveiled at the 2017 Consumer Electronics show. To find out about them, get in touch with us today!
