Tech SkillsGetting the perfect job—especially if you’re looking in the IT or technology industry—is never easy. To stay ahead of the game, you need to learn certain technical skills that give you an edge in an increasingly competitive job market.

One thing that you need to keep in mind, now and going forward, is that we are well and truly in the technological age and we are not going to go back. This means that future jobs will require at least a certain degree of technical know-how and expertise. In fact, even if you’re looking for a creative job, you will need to have some technical expertise such as knowledge of digital marketing, proficiency in using creative tools like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator etc. and a certain level of expertise in using MS-Office Suite.

The point I’m trying to make is that technical skills are incredibly important now and will be even more important in the future. Therefore, it is important for you to develop tech skills that will help your search for a job in the future. Here are the technical skills to develop in 2019.

Therefore, AI and ML will be among the top tech skills to learn in 2019 and the years that follow. Having some sort of expertise in AI or ML will open a plethora of opportunities. This is because of AI/ML drive innovations such as Google Assistant, Alexa, Siri, self-driving, chatbots, and more.

Businesses see an opportunity to optimize their business operations and practices with artificial intelligence and machine learning tools. Therefore, they will be looking for people with expertise in the use of these tools. Surely, you wouldn’t want to let go of such a great career opportunity?

2.     Data Science

Data scientists have been in demand for a while now. However, the demand for data scientists is expected to increase significantly in 2019 and beyond. This is because more and more organizations today need to collect data, consolidate it and, most important of all, draw intelligent and valuable insights from the data available to them. Having a data scientist on-board allows an organization to derive valuable information. This information allows the organization to understand their customers better and make much needed changes and/or improvements to their business operations. So, people skilled at data science will have plenty of opportunities open to them in 2019 and the years that follow.

3.     Digital Marketing

More and more organizations today are looking to hire people skilled in digital marketing. They may need these people to improve their websites or need them to market through different online channels such as social media, email marketing, etc.

In today’s marketing world, having an online present is a must for every business. Therefore, people skilled in any aspect of digital marketing will continued to be hired in 2019 and at least some years beyond that. Why are businesses looking to hire digital marketers? To increase their conversions, customers, and revenue.

If you’re not skilled in digital marketing and want to learn skills that will help you find a job in the field, then there are many online courses that can get the ball rolling for you. These online courses in digital marketing cover important areas of digital marketing such as SEO, Google Adwords, YouTube Marketing, SEO, Google Analytics, Facebook Marketing, and more.

With these online courses, you can learn the basics of digital marketing and more if you want. These courses will teach you how to get started with digital marketing, get found in search engines with SEO, build a mailing list, and write a copy that sells. With these skills, it will be easier for you to find a job in digital marketing.

4.     Business Intelligence/Analytics

Whether they are in the private or public sector, the top-executives in an organization prefer any recommendation made to them to be supported by data. This is where the need for individuals knowledgeable in business intelligence and/or analytics comes in. With these professionals, an organization can properly process and analyze data to extract information that can benefit the enterprise. Therefore, individuals skilled in processing and analyzing data will be in high demand in 2019 and beyond.

5.     Programming

While there are many programming languages that you can learn to enhance your skill-set, Java and Python are the languages most likely to get you hired. Not only will these two languages help in handy for software engineers, they will also help the cause of infrastructure engineers, and digital marketers.

6.     Web Designing

Many businesses today—big or small—has a website. They are always looking to improve their website to attract more people to it. For this, they need the help of a web designer. Additionally, they are many people without a website and they need a web designer to have one designed.  So, if you’re skilled in web designing, then 2019 will be filled with career opportunities for you.
