We’ve all experienced rejection at some stage of our lives. Regardless of when or at what age it happens, rejection is never a pleasant feeling. This could come from a college you applied to, an employer that you wanted to work for, peers, or someone you love or have feelings for. However, accepting and dealing with rejection is the right and often the only way forward. So, how can you counter rejection?
Rejection Is Not the End of the World
Is it just too hard for you to accept that you’ve been rejected? Is rejection by someone preventing you from moving forward in life and achieving all the things you are destined to achieve? If yes, then, you, my friend, have come to the right place. This is because we are about to reveal some effective ways for you to deal with rejection and go back to your pre-rejection life.
Don’t Sob Away Your Rejection on a Packet of Chips
Ah, the classic getaway! Most people, especially women, resort to crying and binge eating to deal with rejection. This isn’t good: now and for the future. Dealing with rejection by eating your feelings will only bring temporary relief which will wither away over time, taking you back to square one.
Surely, you don’t want that to happen? Of course, you don’t or else you wouldn’t be here. You’re probably wondering right now, “If I can’t sob away rejection by binge eating or crying, then how do I deal with my situation?” Fear not, my friend, because we are going to provide you with all the answers you need!
Feeling down and out? Then seek motivation to get back to your old lively self. You’ll be back to your pre-rejection self within a short time if you take inspiration from stories of people who dealt with rejection to achieve great things in life.
Did you know that Walt Disney was fired from his job for a lack of ideas and imagination or that Oprah was rejected by her friends, family, and peers because she became pregnant at the age of 14? If they can overcome rejection to achieve great things in life, then you can do it too. You just need to find motivation and let go of everything that happened in the past including the rejection.
Allow Your Emotions to Flow Without Letting Them Boil Over
If you allow your emotions to boil over after rejection, then you may end up hurting someone you didn’t intend to hurt. Therefore, you must make sure that you keep your emotions under control after you’ve been rejected by someone. However, this does not mean that you suppress your emotions after being rejected. If you do that, your emotions will eventually catch up with you and you will never be able to deal with rejection.
The more you suppress your emotions, the stronger they become. They stay inside you, gaining power, and waiting for the right moment to explode out of you. Yes, it hurts but you need to deal with it rather than bury it under the hatchet. By refusing to deal with the negative emotions arising from rejection, you unintentionally accept rejection. When that happens, you’re no longer in control of your emotions.
If you want to have control over your emotions, then you must let them flow after a rejection. By suppressing them, you’re just delaying the inevitable which is rejection taking over you and pulling you down. Surely, you don’t want that to happen.
Meditate and Let it Go
Anna, the Disney princess from Arendelle, will tell you to let it go and you should listen to her. How can anyone not want all of my ‘awesomeness’? Am I that bad? Do I have any worth? These are the common thoughts people have after they’re rejected. These thoughts or feeling only grow over time if they’re not dealt with appropriately.
A tried and tested way of getting rid of the above-mentioned thoughts after a rejection is practicing meditation. Just close your eyes, meditate, and let it go. To deal with and overcome rejection, practice the following meditation exercise once every day:
- Find a quiet place in your home where you can meditate without disturbance
- With your legs crossed, sit as straight as possible
- Take a few deep breaths and exhale out
- Focus on your breath and let go of the stress
- One at a time, free yourself of all that’s been bothering you. Get over the stress and concerns. Train your mind to think that everything is fine and that it has been always that way
- Take your mind and body into a deep relaxation mode
- Close your eyes
- Visualize being at your dream destination or the best you can be
- Visualize that your acquaintance or friends-circle is growing
- Be in the moment joyfully for a moment and let it become part of your subconscious mind
- Open your eyes and feel the new you
By performing the above meditation exercise once every day, you will overcome all the stress and concerns that you’ve had since the rejection. Meditation is known to relax the mind and soul which has a calming effect on your body and overall demeanor. This allows you to deal with rejection in a way that does not cause harm to your body or mind, allowing you to live a normal life.
Get Ready to Overcome Rejection
Once you’re rejected, a broken record in your mind will keep reminding you about it. For me, the mind – body – and soul is something to work hard to take care of and maintain. Selling for my company, I know I must sometimes take emotion of out it. If I don’t close the deal; I know it is not necessarily me that gets rejected; but it is just not a good fit between out companies. No worries. 😉
