Far From Home Fitness: 5 Exercises You Can Do When Traveling

Working out at home is easy and convenient. Especially if you have gym equipment and workout tools available in your house or if you have a nearby neighborhood gym you go to regularly, exercising can effortlessly be part of your routine.

When traveling, however, your fitness routine may get disrupted. Not only will you have a schedule different from your usual one at home, but you may also not have access to your fitness equipment or a gym. If you are far from home and you want to keep your body on the move, here are five exercises you can do while traveling.

1. Jumping Jacks

Jumping jacks are full-body exercises that you can perform during your cardio or warm-up sessions. As it increases your heart rate and respiration while working out your whole body, jumping jacks can be an excellent cardiovascular conditioning exercise that supports strength work.

It does not require a huge space, so you can do it anytime and anywhere. As long as you can jump with your legs slightly open, your hotel room should be just fine when doing this cardio workout.

2. Planks

Planking is a straightforward exercise you can easily do even when you’re far from home. Whether you’re in a hotel or a camping site, spare some time to perform this bodyweight exercise that targets multiple muscle groups in your body, including your shoulder, arms, core, and hips.

Planking does not take too much of your time nor requires a lot of space; that’s why it can easily be done when you’re traveling. Perform two to three 60-second planks in a day, and you should be all set and ready to move on to another exercise.

3. Bodyweight Squats

Squats are another fitness exercise you can easily perform when you’re on a trip or traveling away from home. It is a type of resistance training that requires no equipment, only proper execution, and precise body movements. Bodyweight squats focus on strengthening your lower body muscles and core to improve power and endurance. They also help enhance your mobility and reduce the risk of injury.

4. Walking Lunges

When you’re out traveling or on vacation, chances are you feel disinterested in exercising because your mind tells you that you’re there to enjoy and relax. When you feel this way, walking lunges are a great exercise to perform because they get you moving and help energize your brain and body. Not only that, walking lunges help increase your heart rate, promote blood circulation throughout your body, and strengthen your hips and legs. And since they require very little time and space, you can conveniently do them anytime and anywhere!

5. Other Physical Activities

If working out seems impossible during your travel, perhaps because of your tight schedule or busy itinerary, just remember to regularly incorporate physical movements in some form. The key is to move your body using different motions and avoid staying stagnant. Doing some stretches, walking around the room, or jogging in place, even for a few minutes in your day, can make the difference. You can also climb up the stairs instead of taking the elevator, walk rather than take a taxi, or go for a bike ride. These simple activities that get you moving and increase your heart rate can help you stay fit even if you’re far away from home.

Just because you’re traveling or out for a vacation doesn’t mean you have an excuse for not working out. As they say, if there’s a will, there’s a way. So if you want to stay in shape and active, make sure to incorporate these simple and doable far-from-home exercises even if you’re exploring the world or seeking out new adventures.
